This is my second in a series of posts featuring photos I took at Walt Disney World recently. You can read my previous post with photos I took at Disney’s Hollywood Studios here. In this post, I will share photos I took at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Visiting Animal Kingdom was the highlight of my trip. I got to spend most of the day with my fellow photographer friend Terry, and I got to photograph so many animals.
The new Pandora land was open, but we didn’t spend much time there. The line for the new Flights of Passage ride was already two hours long when we got there at opening.
We headed over to Africa, where I photographed this drummer with my telephoto lens, which was on my camera most of the day.
After a 45-minute wait, we went on my favorite ride, Kilimanjaro Safaris, where I photographed this happy hippo basking in the sunlight.
These smiling crocodiles looked hungry.
This wild African dog and his pals were taking a nap.
Up close and personal with a giraffe.
An elephant enjoys some water.
An elusive cheetah – I finally got a shot!
My first shot of a lion, just snoozing in the sun.
After the ride was over, we saw this beautiful interaction between a mother Colobus monkey and her baby.
An elegant zebra.
A curious meerkat explores his surrounding.
I just love these guys!
A majestic gorilla.
I took this photo of a vulture during Up! A Great Bird Adventure, a show featuring all sorts of birds.
Photographing the Sumatran tiger was a thrill. Weighing in at around 300 lbs., he’s actually small for a tiger!

The white cheeked gibbons love to show off their acrobatic skills.
Who says adults can’t enjoy a character meal? After heading to Tusker House for a late lunch, I met Mickey and and the gang in their safari costumes. This photo of Daisy was my favorite.
Next it was a mad dash to Expedition Everest for a Fastpass+!
The most exciting part of the ride is when you briefly catch a glimpse of the yeti.
The evening light was starting to fall over the park and it created a magical look.
Soon enough it was time for another ride on Kilimanjaro Safaris, where I photographed this white rhino.
I caught this cheetah taking a bath.
I had another change to photograph a lion in the late afternoon light. Once again, he’s snoozing.
So were the lionesses!
Sometimes it’s important to capture wide shots of wildlife, like this wide shot I got of an elephant and a baobab tree.
Flamingos lounging around the palm trees.
Next it was back to Pandora to take the Na’vi River Journey.
Not having seen the movie Avatar, I didn’t really understand what was going on, but the animation and the animatronics were impressive.
At dusk, I caught Awakenings, a projection show on the Tree of Life.
Some of the projections were really cool!
Next it was time to grab a seat for the Rivers of Light show. I grabbed this photo of Expedition Everest on the way.
I photographed Rivers of Light with my 50mm lens. The variety of colors and projections made for a lot of photo opportunities.
I love how you can see the Tree of Life in the background.
