My Best Photos of 2020

Well, 2020 is in the books, and what a year it was.  With the start of a new year, it’s time for my annual Best Of post, where I share my best photos from the year.  You can view my best of 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013.  I hardly did any traveling this year due to the pandemic (just a quick weekend trip to Cape Cod right before covid hit to visit with family, which didn’t result in any notable photos).  That means for the first time since I started doing these compilations, all my photos were taken within a 40 mile radius of my home in Saratoga Springs, NY!  Despite the lack of travel opportunities, though, 2020 still presented me with a bevy of photographic opportunities, and as a result, it was hard to whittle it down to just 25.  So I didn’t.  I whittled it down to 30, because why not?  Without further ado, here they are, in chronological order!

I captured this selfie of my cat Fran and me on August 15.  If you think this was easy, think again.  I pretty much had to set up my camera and sit around and wait for Fran to settle in the frame before I snapped a series of photos.

Later that day, Barb and I headed to Crandall Park in Glens Falls and we met this beautiful little corgi named Aloy!

This is one of many covid-conscious portraits of my grandmother that I took this year, but this one that I took on October 17 is my favorite.  I took it through her living room window, which made for some interesting reflections.

I took this photo of a leaf in my grandmother’s fence on October 17 as well.

On October 24, my long time friend Juliana came for an outdoor visit with her adorable puppy Mijo!  I took so many pictures that day, but this one edges them out as my favorite.  Click here to view more photos of Mijo.

On October 30, Saratoga experienced a light snowfall, which made for a unique scene.  Click here to order a print of this photo.

I took this photo of Fran admiring my new Christmas tree with Judy Garland singing “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” in the background on December 3.

On December 16, Saratoga got about 30 inches of snow, and the next day I went out and about, taking some photos.  Click here to order a print of this photo.

On December 23, I got to witness something very special:  Santa Claus making the rounds in Saratoga on a fire ladder!  This was a special event put on by the Saratoga Downtown Business Association, Stewart’s Shops, and King Enterprises since the Victorian Streetwalk was cancelled this year due to the pandemic.  I was lucky to track him down and get a few photos of this special occasion.  Click here to view more photos of Christmas in Saratoga.

This last photo, taken on Christmas, depicts the sacrifices my and many other families made this year to keep ourselves and others safe during the pandemic.  We weren’t all able to be physically close to one another, but technology made it possible for us all to connect.  In this photo, my grandmother opens gifts inside her home while some family members sit out on her porch, and others attend via Zoom.  Believe it or not, it was actually pretty enjoyable, although we’re hopeful we can all be together again next year.  Click here to view more photos of my “covid-conscious Christmas.”
