Riding the Saratoga & North Creek Railroad in Upstate New York

Fall foliage is popping here in upstate New York!  Just a few weeks ago, I went on a meetup with my photography club on the Saratoga & North Creek Railroad to look at the fall foliage along the way and take a gondola to the top of Gore Mountain.

I grabbed a shot of the conductor before we started our trip up.

The dome car was just lovely!  I had a nice waffle breakfast.  Photo taken with a friend’s 50mm f/1.2L. Wow, the bokeh is just something else on that lens!

My favorite shots came from the train itself.  I took lots of shots from the back car where it was open to shoot without glass obstruction.

Waiting for the shuttle to Gore Mountain, I saw this old building.

At the train station in North Creek they had a great little museum with model figurines of North Creek in every season!

Say Cheese!

I took more photos from the back of the train on the ride back down, but unfortunately I had to shoot through glass this time.  At least it was clean!

My favorite time of day to shoot occurred during the last hour of our trip back.  When we were back in Saratoga the evening light was just right and I got this shot of the conductor (a different one than our trip up) hanging off the side of the train.
