2024 Kentucky Trip Part III: Visit Spendthrift Farm

2020 Horse of the Year Authentic will stand for a fee of $25,000 in 2025.

Earlier this year, I visited Kentucky to photograph thoroughbreds of all ages, from a day old to 30 years old! In this post I will share photos I took at Spendthrift Farm in Lexington, a breeding farm.  Click here to view my previous Kentucky posts.

Authentic’s Kentucky Derby blanket is displayed under the floor in the visitors center.

Outside the stallion barn is a statue of champion Nashua and his groom Clem Brooks, which sits atop the former’s final resting place.

Kentucky Derby and Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Authentic saw his first crop head to the track this year.

Multiple Grade I winner Omaha Beach saw 17 progeny hit the six-figure mark in earnings for this year.

It was cool to see champion Jackie’s Warrior again after watching him cruise to Grade I glory at Saratoga.

Multiple Grade I winner Vekoma will stand for a fee of $35,000 in 2025.

Multiple Grade I winner Taiba’s first crop will be foaled in 2025.

Belmont Stakes winner Mo Donegal will stand for a fee of $10,000 in 2025.

Champion Forte’s first crop will be foaled in 2025.

Champion Vino Rosso will stand for a fee of $12,500 in 2025.

Champion Mitole will stand for a fee of $10,000 in 2025.

Record setting stallion Into Mischief, who at $250,000 has the highest stud fee at Spendthrift, has become the first stallion in history with more than $30 million in progeny earnings in a single year!

Many famous stallions have stood at Spendthrift over the years. Here is the former stall of 1977 Triple Crown winner Seattle Slew.

1978 Triple Crown winner Affirmed also stood at Spendthrift.

A statue of Malibu Moon, the foundation sire of the modern era Spendthrift, sits outside the visitors center.
