While winter solstice technically isn’t until December 21, but I always think of December 1 as the unofficial start of winter. In this post, I will share my photos from spring, summer, and fall at Old Friends at Cabin Creek in Greenfield, NY, where I volunteer. Click here to see my other Old Friends posts.

Checking in with Naughty New Yorker.

Even when dirty, King Congie is a picture.

Mr. Cowboy awaits his dinner in the rain.

Commentator strikes a pose.

Farm visitor Stephanie gives A Shin Forward a pet.

Farm volunteer Dory gives Mr. Cowboy a pet.

Sadly, we lost the legendary Commentator in July. A beautiful memorial service was held at the farm with many fond remembrances shared.

In July, we welcomed Diversify to the herd. If any horse could be considered Commentator’s living legacy, Diversify would be it. Like Tator, he is a New York-bred. Like Tator, he won the Whitney, and he and Tator are two of only three total New York-breds to ever win the race (the third being Fio Rito). Like Tator, he was given New York Horse of the Year honors following his Whitney victory. Finally, Diversify also won three New York-bred stakes, including the Commentator.

JoAnn Pepper leads Valiant Crusader.

This Hard Land (Frankie) and Slew’s Brew soak in their surroundings.

Volunteer Dan holds his best bud Watchem Smokey, the oldest Thoroughbred on the farm at age 25.

Valiant Crusader checks out his new digs.

Longtime volunteer Barb chats with Slew’s Brew.

Volunteer Wendy introduces visitors to Red Down South and Bold Illusion at our annual Barn Party.

Visitors meet with Like Now and feed him treats as Daryl and Ron look on.

JoAnn gives millionaire Be Bullish a kiss.

Members of the NYRA gate crew, our guests of honor at the Barn Party, pose with Bull.

NYRA analyst Acacia Clément introduces her nephew Hugo to Valiant Crusader.

Resident barn panther Rudy roams the grounds.

Diversify poses next to his sign.

A Shin Forward pauses in the late afternoon golden light.

Valiant Crusader looks a picture amongst the fall foliage.

Naughty New Yorker doesn’t have a bad side and is always willing to pose for the camera.

A beautiful fall afternoon at the farm.

Patrick the quarter horse still looks good at 38.

Red Down South and Bold Illusion would never turn down a peppermint.

Be Bullish’s white coat contrasts beautifully with the fall foliage in the background. Off in the distance are Patrick and This Hard Land.

Bold Illusion relaxes before dinner while Red Down South looks on.

Red and Bo share a quiet moment.
