I’m back from my second trip through the Canadian Rockies. To read about my first trip in 2015, check out my posts on the Cowboy Trail, Lake Louise, Lake Louise Village, Banff, and more. In the forthcoming posts, I’ll take you through Banff, Jasper, Yoho, and Kootenay National Parks in Alberta and British Columbia. In this post, we start with Banff.
Our trip began in Banff, at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. The Fairmont is a beautiful property with many opportunities for photographs. Because this wasn’t my first time there, I didn’t take nearly as many photos as I did during my last visit, so be sure to check out my 2015 post on Banff for more photos.
This is the beautiful deck where you can look out onto the Bow River.

A neutral density filter allowed me to capture this long exposure at Vermilion Lakes.
After a ride up the gondola and a freezing cold ride up the chairlift, I captured this stunning vista of Rock Isle, Laryx, and Grizzly Lakes.
Don’t I look so happy to be there? I was a little underdressed for the weather, and my big bazooka lens was weighing me down a little.
Next stop was Storm Mountain Lodge. This is the lobby of the main lodge.
This is one of their cozy cabins.
And now, the cabin from the outside.
I also photographed the cabins at night.
Over at Lake Minnewanka, I spotted this sheep snacking on gravel.
Lake Minnewanka looked beautiful and dramatic under the stormy skies.
Down the road were more sheep! I love this little guy.
That looks uncomfortable!
A young caribou spotted by the side of the road.
Another trip to Vermilion Lakes was in order for sunset. I took another long exposure with my neutral density filter.
Nearby Bow Falls was another photo stop.
