Arizona Excursion Part 1: Staying at Rancho de los Caballeros

I recently took a trip to Arizona to enjoy some sunshine and red rocks! The trip started in Wickenburg and a stay at the lovely Rancho de los Caballeros, then continued with a quick trip in Prescott for a visit to the Sharlot Hall Museum and a walk down whiskey row, then ended in Sedona with a side trip to Winslow to see the famous meteor crater and the statue paying tribute to the famous Eagles song that mentions the town (“Take It Easy”). In this post I will share photos from my time in Wickenburg at my stay at the ranch. What you won’t see in this post, though are any horses. I took so many photos of horses at the ranch that my next post will be dedicated solely to them, so stay tuned!

First we visited the Desert Caballeros Western Museum. Outside the museum there were many beautiful sculptures.

The lower level of the museum is set up like Wickenburg in the Old West. Above is a photo of a Victorian living room from the early 1900s.

In the General Store, one is greeted by a hologram storekeeper.

It wouldn’t be the Old West without a saloon! Do you see me in the mirror?

A peek into the church.

Standing outside the livery and the saloon.

I was lucky enough to catch the Cowgirl Up exhibit, featuring incredible artwork from female artists from the West.

The sculptures really blow me away.

There are many statues around town depicting characters from the Old West. Here is a teacher having just gotten off the train.

Across the street you see a statue of a woman named Elizabeth Hudson Smith, who was the owner of the Vernetta Hotel and an important figure in building up the town of Wickenburg. The hotel was a popular stop on the Santa Fe railroad in its day. Unfortunately, by the 1930s, many whites from the east and south began arriving in Wickenburg, and did not stay in Elizabeth’s hotel because she was a black woman, and business declined.

Welcome to Rancho de los Caballeros!

The lobby of the main building is impressive. Over the fireplace you can see the Sun C symbol that represents the ranch.

Here’s another look at the lobby.

Me posing with a Sun C along a walkway.

Delicious margaritas and other libations are served at the saloon!

The property is well-maintained and pleasant to walk around.

I love these trees that we definitely don’t have in upstate New York.

A tree I photographed several times.

Here is the same tree at night.

It was fun to walk around the property at night. I love all the cacti!

Another view of the property at night.

This saguaro cactus was my favorite.

A view of our casita at night.

Stay tuned for my next post, where I’ll share photos I took of the horses of Rancho de los Caballeros!
