Earlier this summer I traveled to California for a vacation. I visited Truckee, Lake Tahoe, Bodie Ghost Town, Mono Lake, Mammoth Lakes, Bishop, Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest, Yosemite National Park, Napa Valley, and Point Reyes. In this post I will share some of the photos I took in Truckee and Lake Tahoe. This post is not very heavy on photos, because this area was more of a stopover, and I didn’t spend a lot of time there. Subsqequent posts will feature a much larger volume of photos.
Jax diner in Truckee was featured on “Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dive,” but it was pretty mediocre. The four cheese macaroni and cheese wasn’t too bad.

I stopped at one of the public beaches to take a few photos.
I would have loved to have taken a tour of the Cal-Neva Lodge, but it’s currently closed for renovations. This resort, which straddles the California and Nevada state line, was once owned by Frank Sinatra, and many celebrities are said to have stayed here. Prior to Sinatra’s ownership, Judy Garland performed here when she was just twelve years old, shortly before signing a contract with MGM. Being a huge fan of old Hollywood, I find all of this extremely interesting, so I hope to go back one day once it reopens and see the inside for myself.
Our last stop before heading to Bodie Ghost Town was Sand Harbor, actually on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe. It wasn’t exactly the best time of day for photographs, but the beautiful color of the water and the clouds in the sky made up for it.
For the photo above, I got my camera as close as I could to the water. I’m lucky I didn’t drop it in!
Stay tuned for my next post, with photos from Bodie Ghost Town!
