Christmas on Cape Cod 2022

Blackfish Creek in Wellfleet

I recently spent the Christmas and New Year’s holidays on Cape Cod with family. In this post, I’ll share some of my favorite photos from the trip.

Santa brought me this horseshoe ornament with the name of the now 2 year old filly I own a share of on it. It was handmade by a blacksmith in Alaska. What a meaningful gift!

The wrapping paper sits on the floor after the presents are opened.

In my family we do Secret Santa. My Secret Santa brought me an old fashioned horse racing game. Each player bets on a horse and you watch to see which one crosses the finish line first.

We spent some quality time with Ginger the goldendoodle. Here are some photos of her with family members.

There is a mural painted on the side of a CVS in Orleans. I am guessing it is based on an historical photo of Orleans.

A visit to Fort Hill in Eastham yielded these moody photos.

There’s always a wreath on Nauset Light in Eastham at Christmas.

I was able to catch a gorgeous sunset at Blackfish Creek in Wellfleet.

The Eastham Windmill and the Memorial Buoy Tree made excellent photo subjects under a purple sky.

My family plays games and there are prizes. Here, my cousin holds up a mini Lite Brite that he won playing Bingo.

A wreath hangs on a house in Orleans.

The historic Freeman Johnson Howard House in Orleans (the original part is in front, with an addition on the back) decorated with wreaths.

A pleasant day at the end of the Woods Cove trail in Orleans.

The Peppermint Pig is a centuries old tradition in my hometown of Saratoga Springs, NY. We brought the tradition to the Cape and enjoyed it there. The tradition is to crack the pig, and then go around the room and share what prosperity you experienced during the year before enjoying the delicious peppermint.

I made this illustration when I got home, as a shoutout to everyone who has family on the Cape. If you know, you know. Click here to order a print of this photo.
