Since today is my grandmother’s birthday, I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite photos I’ve taken of her over the years. Since my grandmother reads this blog, let me take this opportunity to wish her a very happy birthday!! Read on to see more photos:
I’ve always loved this photo I took of her when leaving after visiting her at her condo in Florida back in 2007. I used to get sad when I’d look at it because I missed her, but now she lives in the same town as me again, so it’s not as sad!
I recently snapped this photo of her on my iPhone. Now that camera phones can shoot raw, it really is possible to get a perfectly decent photo on one, although I tend to favor my professional gear due to the range of user controls and overall higher resolution and image quality. This photo is a sign of the times we live in: my grandmother and I are having a socially distant visit, as she talks to me from her porch while I sit in the back yard to ensure her safety.
I snapped this photo of my grandmother bonding with my cat Franny last summer.
I really love how this portrait of my grandmother and her identical triplet sister (my great aunt, obviously) came out, which I took on the occasion of their birthday last year.
While Otis the Poodle is the main subject of this pet portrait, you can see my grandmother in the background petting him. Otis does not belong to my grandmother, but the two have a tight bond.
This is one of my favorite portraits of all time. Taken eleven years ago, on the “girls'” birthday in 2009, on my Sony 𝛼200 with a 50mm Minolta lens, when I was just starting to get serious about photography. The gear wasn’t optimal, but the available light illuminated their faces beautifully.
In this photo, my grandmother heads off to one of our family’s favorite quiet little beaches on Cape Cod, back in 2009. I replaced the boring blue sky with a sky from a different photo I took using the Luminar app.
Fran and my grandmother formed a quick bond when I adopted her back in 2016.

I took this portrait of my grandmother and my cousin (her grandson) when we went to visit my cousin back in 2015.
On a 2012 trip to Oswego, NY with my mother and grandmother to visit my alma mater, SUNY Oswego, we stopped along the way at Chittenango Falls near Syracuse. Using the 10 second timer on my camera, I captured this photo of us.
I captured this photo of my grandmother looking out the window of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Orlando back in 2013.
This photo captures the essence of one of the things I love most about my grandmother: her genuine interest in all the people she meets. In this photo, she is talking to a re-enactor at the Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine, FL. She stayed awhile to chat and really learn the history of the site we were visiting.
In this photo, my grandmother enjoys a hug from Mickey at Walt Disney World back in 2013.
I snapped this portrait of my grandmother while enjoying a meal at the Whispering Canyon Café at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge back in 2010. Due to some white balance issues, I converted it to black and white and I quite like the look of it.
In the above photo my grandmother enjoys a drink at Congress Spring in our hometown of Saratoga Springs, NY.
I snapped this photo on a fall walk around Saratoga.

I took the above photo at the Equinox Resort in Manchester, VT, where we visited for my birthday and Mother’s Day (which often occur in the same weekend) one year.
A photo I took of my mom and grandmother outside the flagship Orvis Store in Manchester, VT.
I had so much fun attending Oz-Stravaganza in 2014 in Chittenango, NY with my mom and grandmother. Chittenango is the birthplace of Wizard of Oz author L. Frank Baum. As you can see in the above photo, the town really plays up their claim to him, with signs and references to the book and movie (notice the poppies?).
I took this photo a few years ago while awaiting our scrumptious crêpes and pomme-frites at Ravenous in downtown Saratoga.
