2023 Canadian Rockies Trip Part I: Banff National Park

Canoers on Moraine Lake

Last summer, I made my third visit to the Canadian Rockies to take in the splendor of the mountains, rivers, lakes, and wildlife. In this post, I will share photos I took in Banff National Park in Alberta. Click here to view my previous posts about the Canadian Rockies.

Moraine Lake was what first attracted me to the Canadian Rockies. I love the mountain formations and the turquoise water. Click here to order a print of this photo.

The Moraine Lake Lodge’s dining room offers food with a view…an incredible view.

Staying at the Moraine Lake Lodge for the first time afforded me the opportunity to take this night time photo of the mountains from my balcony. Click here to order a print of this photo.

This part of Moraine Lake at morning is very peaceful. Most tourists choose to capture the sunrise from the top of the rock pile. Click here to order a print of this photo.

The sun comes up over the mountains on a chilly summer morning. Click here to order a print of this photo.

A cancer and her dog brave the morning cold to go out on the lake.

The sitting area of the Moraine Lake Lodge offers a pleasant place to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning.

When visiting the Canadian Rockies, canoeing on the pristine blue lakes is a must. I love sitting in front because I can get the canoe in the shot. Click here to order a print of this photo.

A look back at the lodge.

The lake is full of canoes during the day. Click here to order a print of this photo.

Also in Banff National Park, Lake Louise is another iconic lake. This picture, which I took from the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, ended up being one of my favorites of 2023. Click here to order a print of this photo.

In this photo, you can see some of the lake as well as part of the back of the hotel. Unfortunately, there was construction going on while I was there. If it had been my first time there, I would have been really disappointed, but having been there twice before, it didn’t bother me that much.

Inside the hotel there is a room designed to look like a trapper’s cabin.

A cancer navigates the lake on a calm morning.

I love getting the lake and the mountains at different times of day. Here it is in morning. Click here to order a print of this photo.

The canoes look so tiny from a distance.

Lake Louise is another lake worthy of a canoe ride.

This is a view I could look at all day!

It was an overcast day, but still pretty.

A look back at the hotel from the lake. Luckily, a lot of the construction is obscured by the trees.

Lake Louise selfie!

A view of the mountains from Louiza restaurant in the hotel.

This pasta dish was so good I ordered it on two separate occasions while I was there! I can almost taste it, looking at this photo now.

Everyone should try a Bloody Caesar when in Canada, their answer to a Bloody Mary, containing clamato juice.

Lake Louise at sunset is stunning. Click here to order a print of this photo.

A Lakota Cree First Nations elder poses by the shore of the lake. The Cree people are one of Canada’s largest First Nations. I love this man’s colorful clothing set against the backdrop of Lake Louise and the mountains.

Bears are prevalent in the Canadian Rockies. Originally when we drove past these two grizzlies, only the mother was visible. Then, right as we drove by, the cub popped his head out right as I snapped the shot.  Click here to order a print of this photo.

Peyto Lake is visible from above after a short hike to a viewing platform. Click here to order a print of this photo.

Morant’s Curve offers a view looking down at the Bow River. Click here to order a print of this photo.

A view to the left shows kayakers in the river. Click here to order a print of this photo.

While I didn’t spend much time in the town of Banff this time around, I took this photo looking down from Mt. Norquay.
