Kentucky Trip Part VI: Visiting Lane’s End Farm

2018 Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Accelerate is walked from his barn.

In this post, I will continue to share photos from my April 2023 trip to Kentucky.  Click here to read my previous Kentucky posts. Today I will share photos I took at Lane’s End Farm in Versailles.

Lane’s End Farm was established by the Farish family in 1979 and sits on 3,300 acres in Versailles.

At the farm there is a statue of A.P. Indy, a breed-shaping sire who passed away in 2020.

A closer look at A.P. Indy.

When I visited last year, I got to see Honor Code, who won the 2015 Whitney Stakes at Saratoga, but he has since been sold to Yushun Stallion Station in Japan.

Honor Code is walked back to the barn.

Unified is a multiple graded stakes winner who won 4 of his 7 starts.

Tonalist is best known for spoiling California Chrome’s bid for the Triple Crown by winning the 2014 Belmont Stakes.

The Factor is a multiple Grade I winner and near millionaire who raced on the west coast.

Daredevil only had five starts, but among his wins was the 2014 Champagne Stakes.

2018 Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Accelerate has since been pensioned and relocated to Kentucky Horse Park’s Hall of Champions.

Pictured here is the stallion shed where the actual breeding occurs. Most of the stallions have two appointments a day during breeding season.

The Factor is led from the barn.

Union Rags is a multiple Grade I winner who earned nearly $1.8 million.

Honor A.P. won two of his six starts, including the Grade I Santa Anita Derby in 2020.

West Coast won six of his thirteen starts, including the Travers Stakes in 2017.

Of all the stallions at Lane’s End, I was most excited to meet 2022 Breeders’ Cup Classic winner and Horse of the Year Flightline.

This is my favorite photo I took of Flightline, who has been called by many the best horse of his generation.

Flightline has a padded stall because he is accident prone and had a serious accident in his stall that significantly delayed the start of his racing career.

Groom Juan Ruelas admires Flightline.

My friend Linda snaps a pic of Flightline.

A beautifully maintained cemetery pays tribute to those who have passed on.
