Now that winter is officially behind us (although more snow is in the forecast for this week in upstate New York), it’s time for my winter farm posts. This post will feature photos I took this past winter at Old Friends at Cabin Creek, the Thoroughbred retirement farm I volunteer at in Greenfield, NY. Handy Stan’s owner Lee gives him a treat.
Commentator’s exercise rider Carlos Correa came to visit him in December!
Snow flurries began to come down on this afternoon when I visited with Handy Stan before feeding.
A Shin Forward in black and white.
This has become my favorite photo of Shin to date. I love the way his mane is blowing in the wind and the snow flurries are coming down.
Congie is good about pricking his ears for photos!
Naughty New Yorker aka Vito is another easy horse to photograph.
New York breds Strummer and Doc N Roll get some exercise in their paddock.
Solo portrait of Doc.
Preakness alum Like Now looks regal.
Second-oldest Thoroughbred on the farm Red Down South on a chilly winter afternoon.
This Hard Land aka Frankie is a sweetheart and a joy to photograph.
A cloud of snow is blown around in the wind with King Congie standing by the fence.
Another stoic portrait of Congie.
A portrait of beautiful barn cat Rudy.
Farm owner JoAnn Pepper poses with millionaire Be Bullish.
Vito gets some affection from pal Nancy.
Shin gives Nancy a lick.
Be Bullish on a sunny afternoon.
This is a new favorite photo of Commentator. As soon as I saw it I knew it would look good in black and white,
A sunny afternoon portrait of Vito.
It’s true, I often find myself needing to photograph Rudy whenever I have my camera with me.
Roaring Lion is the farm’s resident Maryland bred.
I love a good Congie romp.
Red Down South and Bold Illusion are in the business of looking cute for treats so my dad fed them in tandem.
Watchem Smokey is the farm’s oldest Thoroughbred at age 24.
Frankie gets a little worked up on a very chilly afternoon.
His paddock mate, Slew’s Brew, follows suit.
A portrait of Slew.
Shin in motion!
