Looking Back at the Belmont, Part III: The Windows

Lifestyles of Saratoga, which won the Belmont on Broadway window decorating contest.

This is the latest in a series of posts about the 2024 Belmont Stakes Racing Festival at Saratoga. Click here to read my other posts. In this post, I share photos of the storefronts on Broadway that were decorated as part of a window decorating contest.

Hatsational’s display featured a pair of fans dressed in Saratoga attire watching a race on TV.

G. Willikers’ display featured flowers and equine-related toys.

Saratoga Candy Co.’s window featured horses with clever sayings on the saddle towels.

Union Hall Supply Co.’s display featured boards with artifacts and information about the race and horse racing in general.

Dark Horse Mercantile’s display featured cool Saratoga and Belmont products and carnations and horseshoes in the window.

Common Thread’s display featured all sorts of cool Belmont Stakes and other racing memorabilia.

Violet’s display featured a beautiful arrangement of flowers and pennants saying “Belmont on Broadway” and “They’re Off!”

Crafters Gallery’s display featured tributes to Triple Crown winners American Pharoah and Justify as well as horse racing themed memorabilia.

Celtic Treasures’ display featured fake quarter poles and art and products related to horse racing.

Menges and Curtis’ display cleverly combined dogs and horse racing.

The centerpiece of Caroline and Main’s display was a crown showing the winners of the first two legs of the Triple Crown, with a question mark for the Belmont.

Lifestyles of Saratoga won the contest, with its giant floral horseshoe and its tributes to Saratoga and Belmont Park, respectively, in each of its windows.

Impressions’ display featured some of the cool Belmont products they carry in their store.

Berkshire Hathaway’s display featured a starting gate and two horses with jockeys wearing Berkshire Hathaway silks.

Mis Scarlett’s display featured a mannequin wearing a sequined dress with the Belmont at Saratoga logo on it.

This sign was painted on the Saratoga Springs City Center foot bridge.

I photographed these windows on two separate days. On the second day I went, downtown was gearing up for the Belmont on Broadway concert featuring Blues Traveler, and I happened to spot Saratoga Springs Police Officer Wilson on board Apollo.

Signs lined the street in anticipation of the big weekend.

Signs could also be found up and down Union Ave., where the track is located.
