Visits to Thirty Year Farm

Mares stand in the snow on a beautiful but chilly winter morning.

Back in February 2024, I made my first visit to Thirty Year Farm, a Thoroughbred breeding farm in Saratoga Springs, NY. The farm has a band of 14 broodmares, among them the dams of graded stakes winner Casa Creed, Battle of Normandy, and Cugino. In this post, I will share photos I have taken at the farm over the past two years.

This Jackie’s Warrior colt out of the Midshipman mare Sassy Sienna was the first foal I met at Thirty Year Farm back in 2024. I first blogged about him in my post “My Second Annual February Break Equine Stay-Cation.”

Farm manager Lolly LaRue gives Jack a kiss.

Jack gets some exercise with his dam Sassy Sienna.

Lolly gives broodmare She’samericanmade, at the time in foal to Tapit, a kiss.

I photographed this Flightline colt out of the Kitten’s Joy mare Adorable Miss last spring. Adorable Miss is the dam of graded stakes winners Cugino and Battle of Normandy.

I photographed this Good Magic colt out of the Into Mischief mare Walking Miracle on that same spring visit.

This filly out of the Galileo mare Evening Primrose is from the first crop of Spendthrift Farm stallion Taiba.

This filly out of the Even the Score mare Heavenly Score is out of another first crop Spendthrift Farm stallion, Arabian Lion.

Remember Jack, the 2024 foal I photographed? Well, here he is as a yearling, getting some love from horse care and training specialist Christine “Schasz” Schazberger.

This Nyquist colt is the half brother of the Heavenly Score filly.

A fall 2025 visit to the farm yielded some nice weanling photos. Pictured are, from left, an Uncle Mo filly out of Lady Scarlet, an Oscar Performance filly out of East India, and a Munnings colt out of Follow the Flag. The colt is a cousin of Horse of the Year candidate Sovereignty.

The Bellamy Road mare Achalaya, in foal to Justify, is the dam of multiple grade 1 winner Casa Creed.

More weanlings! From left are a Cody’s Wish colt out of Sassy Sienna (whose older half brother and sister you’ve already met), the Flightline colt out of Adorable Miss you met previously, the Taiba filly out of Evening Primrose you met previously, and the Good Magic colt out of Walking Miracle you met previously.

I photographed those same three weanlings from the fall again in December on a snowy day.

The Good Magic colt pauses in the snow.

The Arabian Lion filly you met previously and an Americanrevolution filly out of Samaritan’s Purse look towards the camera.

Two-year-olds Constance (left) and Big Mar enjoyed the snow day.

Thirty Year Farm in Saratoga recently added three new broodmares to their band. The Arrogate mare Happy Talk is in foal to Practical Joke. The Medaglia d’Oro mare Golden Ghost is in foal to Not This Time. The More Than Ready mare Yanira is a half sister to Puca, the dam of grade 1 winners Mage, Dornoch, and Baeza. She is carrying a foal by Good Magic, the sire of Mage and Dornoch.

Big Mar, right, and the broodmares have a chat.
