My Second Annual February Break Equine Stay-cation

Sassy Sienna and her Jackie’s Warrior colt on the go at Thirty Year Farm in Saratoga Springs, NY.

I was busy last week! With the week off from school, where I teach 7th grade French, I’ve been using the time to – what else? – catch up on my equine photography and videography. I went to five different horse farms in Saratoga County, New York. I am still working on my large video project about thoroughbreds, so I got some footage for that along with many photos. In this post I’ll share a little preview of some of the photos I took. In subsequent posts, I will share even more photos from the various places I went. Click here to read last year’s equine stay-cation post.

I made two visits to Mahoney Eden Manor in Saratoga to see the foals. Pictured here are a Mandaloun colt out of My Precious (just the ears), a Pinehurst colt out of The Important One (up close shot), and an Independence Hall filly out of All Over the Map. Many more photos to come from this farm, as many of you know I visit there frequently! Click here to view my previous Mahoney Eden Manor posts.

I brought my camera to Old Friends at Cabin Creek in Greenfield to get some photos of the boys as snow flurries were falling. Pictured above are King Congie, Doc N Roll, and A Shin Forward. Click here to view my previous Old Friends posts.

I went to Irish Hill Century Farm in Stillwater to see mamas, babies, and yearlings. Pictured above are Goodbye Brockley ’24, Cat Ferrad ’24 (Mind Control filly) and Added Unto You ’24 (Central Banker colt). Click here to read my previous Irish Hill Century Farm post.

I also made a stop at the stallion barn to see some of Irish Hill & Dutchess Views stallions. Pictured above is Mind Control, whose first crop is being foaled this year. Who else did I meet? You’ll have to wait for my future post to see, but I will share that I did get to feed some treats to a Kentucky Derby winner!

I visited Mill Creek Farm in Stillwater to see more mamas and babies as well as some stallions. Pictured above are Popstar and her Central Banker filly, Air Mail and her War Dancer filly and standardbred stallion Coraggioso.

Finally, I visited Thirty Year Farm in Saratoga, where I met a charming Jackie’s Warrior colt (pictured above with his dam Sassy Sienna). Also pictured are two-year-old Constance and farm manager Lolly LaRue with broodmare She’samericanmade, who foaled a Tapit filly a couple days later.

I also made a video comprised of over 800 frames I shot during the week. Email subscribers, click here to view the video.
