Last April, I visited Stonestreet Farm in Lexington, KY for the first time. For those who don’t know, Stonestreet is a Thoroughbred breeding farm with a pretty remarkable broodmare band. In this post I’ll share some of my favorite photos of the mares and foals at the farm.

A Gun Runner filly out of the multiple graded stakes winner Pauline’s Pearl takes a snooze.

A Good Magic colt out of the Bernardini mare La Burnett relaxes on some straw.

One of the mares gets a bath while her foal looks on.

A Taiba colt out of the Bernardini mare Bernadetta relaxes in his stall.

The More Than Ready mare Cabo Queen and her Good Magic filly get turned out.

Multiple graded stakes winner Dreaming of Julia, dam of graded stakes winners Malathaat and Julia Shining, and her Curlin filly are turned out.

Graded stakes winner Valadorna and her Constitution colt are turned out.

Graded stakes placed Glinda the Good, dam of successful stallion Good Magic, and her Gun Runner filly are turned out.

Broodmare manager Charles Campbell leads retired broodmare Sally Bowles to her paddock.

For most visitors to Stonestreet Farm, meeting Hall of Famer Rachel Alexandra is the highlight. The 2009 Horse of the Year is retired from being a broodmare and greets her many fans on tours of the farm.

What better way to end a tour?
