This is my fourth post in my series chronicling my travels through Newfoundland and the French Territory of Saint Pierre and Miquelon. Click here to see my photos of St. John’s, click here to see my photos of Trinity, and click here to see my photos from Elliston and Bonavista. In this post, I’ll share my photos of the Random Passage Site in New Bonaventure, outside Trinity.
So, in case you weren’t aware, the Random Passage Site is completely fake. It was built in the year 2000 for the television adaptation of the historical novel Random Passage, which takes place primarily in Newfoundland. After filming concluded, the set remained, and now serves as a window into what life was like for Newfoundlanders in colonial times. Even folks who haven’t seen the miniseries or read the book before visiting (myself among them) will enjoy this fascinating tour.
This house with the sod roof belonged to the Andrews.
Here is a peek inside Ned and Mary Andrews’ house.
Another room inside the house. I can’t help but be reminded of Little House on the Prairie!
Now on this fishing flake, what you see is prop cod, because of course, it’s all fake.
Like many of the other buildings, you can go inside this fishing hut.
In this photo, we get a view inside Thomas Hutchings’ House.
This house is the Vincent House.
Inside the Vincent House we see beds and a table to eat at.
…And not the most comfortable looking bed.
Inside Ida’s house, we get a peek at how the wealthier residents lived.
Ida’s bed sits in her room where she picked the wallpaper off with her finger.
What a view she had!
Onto her dining room.
This photo of the church is my favorite I took that day.
A cemetery outside the church has graves for the fictional characters who died during the course of the show.
Inside the church.
On the walk back to the parking lot, you can see this real church!
