A Day at the Races

On Saturday I spent a day at Saratoga Race Course with my camera in tow. The last weekend of the meet was bittersweet for many fans, but the day culminated in the running of the Grade I Jockey Club Gold Cup.

I also photographed race 3 from the clubhouse. I love the woman’s hands in the air in this photo.

Screamin’ By got loose on the track ahead of race 4.
In this photo, an outrider works on catching Screamin’ By as he, um, screamed by?
Two outriders catch Screamin’ By. Party’s over!
The outrider gets a round of applause as he returns with Screamin’ By. Unfortunately, though, having already run his own little solo race twice around the track, Screamin’ By was unsurprisingly scratched from race 4.
I photographed race 4 using a panning technique.

After the race, Founder is untacked by his team so he can get a bath.
Aah, that feels nice!

I went back up to the clubhouse for race 10.

It was a fun day! I’ll be back next year!
