My February Break Equine Staycation

I’ve been busy this week! With the week off from school, where I teach 7th grade French, I’ve been using the time to – what else? – catch up on my equine photography and videography. I went to six different equine-related facilities, four of them farms. I am working on a large video project about thoroughbreds, so I got some footage for that along with many photos. In this post I’ll share a little preview of some of the photos I took. In subsequent posts, I will share even more photos from the various places I went.

On Saturday afternoons I typically help feed at Old Friends at Cabin Creek. While I was there, I got a few pictures of the boys.

After feeding, I met some of my partners (who co-own two-year-old filly Mary Union Ave with me) at Saratoga Harness for some races. It’s fun to explore a different type of racing than I usually photograph, and I even got to chat with track photographer Jessica Hallett.

On Tuesday I visited Sugar Plum Farm, a breeding farm in Saratoga. Farm manager Crystal has been so gracious in letting my come back after I visited the farm last summer with my Cabin Creek friends. Click here to see photos from that trip. Fun fact: The gray horse in the second photo is Kreesie, a daughter of one of our late Cabin Creek residents, Cosmonaut.

On Tuesday evening, I attended a Thoroughbred aftercare celebration at the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame where the New York Thoroughbred Breeding and Development Fund, helmed by Tracy Egan, presented a very generous donation to various New York State aftercare organizations, including Old Friends at Cabin Creek.

On Wednesday morning, I paid a visit to Irish Hill Century Farm in Stillwater. This was my second visit to the farm. I got some photos of the broodmares out grazing. It was a peaceful, but chilly, morning.

On Thursday I made one of my regular visits to Mahoney Eden Manor in Saratoga to see mamas and babies. Dachshunds Cooper and Piper made an appearance, too!

Finally, on Saturday I returned to Cabin Creek to help feed in the snow.

I also made a video showcasing over 600 photos that I took during the week. Email subscribers, click here to watch the video.
