Yearlings at Fasig-Tipton 2023

This Into Mischief colt out of Rachel’s Valentina, a grandson of champion racemare Rachel Alexandra, sold for $1.5 million.

It’s summer, so that means sale time at Fasig-Tipton in Saratoga. Every summer, Fasig-Tipton has two yearling sales, The Saratoga Sale (one of the most prestigious yearling sales in the country) and the New York Breds sale. In this post, I will share some photos I took of the yearlings with a little information about their pedigrees and how much they sold for. Click here to read my previous posts about Fasig-Tipton.

First up is the Saratoga Sale. This Curlin filly out of Enchanted Rock sold for $450,000.

This Practical Joke colt out of Rumandice sold for $500,000.

This Caravaggio filly out of Unostrike sold for $210,000.

The first million dollar sale is made!

This Venom colt out of Inconclusive sold for $200,000.

This Medaglia D’Oro filly out of In the Moonlight sold for $320,000.

Next, we move on to the New York Bred Yearlings Sale. This Kantharos colt out of Memento D’Oro did not meet reserve.

This Upstart colt out of Ungh did not meet reserve either.

This Omaha Beach colt out of Moment of Speight sold for $150,000.

This Dialed In colt out of Tulipmania did not meet reserve.

I was very interested in seeing this Authentic colt out of Thin Disguise, because he is a nephew of Naughty New Yorker, one of the horses at Old Friends at Cabin Creek, the thoroughbred retirement farm where I volunteer. He sold for $100,000.

This Munnings colt out of To the Moon Alice, bred by Old Tavern farm, sold for $340,000, and was the highest selling filly of the sale. I took this photo of her last summer when I visited the farm. Click here to see more photos from that visit.

Let’s take another look back at last year: This is Prince of Monaco, who sold for just shy of $1 million at the Saratoga Sale last year. He recently won the Grade III Best Pal Stakes at Del Mar, setting a stakes track record and earning a 103 Beyer speed figure, the fastest of any two-year-old horse in the country so far this year. It’s fun to follow the yearlings from the sale to the track!
